Chris Coyier of CSS Tricks points out that us geeks have our own language that sometimes sounds alien to the outsider. He came up with a list of some of these words and does a good job explaining them in plain english.
Server – When a webpage is visited, data is sent from some computer somewhere to your computer over the internet. That other computer is a server, essentially just like the one you are looking at, only specially configured to deliver information to other computers asking for it. Even though any computer could technically be a server, far more commonly people purchase server functionality from companies that specialize in it, like Media Temple. In addition to “server” being used to describe the physical machine, it also may be used to describe the software program used on that machine which handles serving up that data, like Apache. |

A friend of mine (Greg Lees) bought a house next door to him a couple of years ago with the plans of fixing it up and having his daughter and son in-law move into it. It needed a lot of work. Greg has been working on it in the evenings after his day job and weekends since. Most if not all of the work is being completed by himself. The entire house was gutted out re-wired, plumbing replaced, the works. He should be very proud of the job he did. A lot of sweat and time went into this.

Getting off work early today gave me a few extra hours to myself. I sat down and read a chapter in Romans and in the background I had the the trailer music playing from the latest #3">Star Trek Trailer. I love that music in the trailer. I began to think about what it would sound like if it was the music for the trailer for say....The Passion of Christ. That led my over caffeinated mind to put some clips together using iMovie and mix in the music for the background. I didn't do any editing to the music at all. Just made the clips match the music length (2 min 27 sec) and called it a wrap. The result is...well....different. |

@Shrop shared a link to a very nice desktop wallpaper titled Hardwood Lights. Being an Apple user it looks great to me the way it is. I'm also a fan of Drupal. I simply took the wallpaper and gave it a drupal touch. Download Full Size Version (1680 X 1050) Added an iPhone version |
