One of the podcasts I listen to and a fellow twitterer @jesusgeek, is the Jesus Geek podcast. This past week one that really stood out and seemed to hit at home was his podcast on Internet Voyuerism. He talks about the current social networking site trends that seems to be taking place right now where you tell everybody on the internet what your doing and people want to follow you to find out what your doing. If you choose people can find out what your doing down to the minute. He brings up his thoughts on how the more he uses for example Brightkite the more he feels uncomfortable about people getting that detailed of information out to strangers about where he is and what he is doing. Why do we really need to tell people everything were doing? Why do we want to know what everyone else is doing all the time? While these tools can be very useful we should really sit back and evaluate how we use these tools. Try to be more intelligent and use them more responsibly. I'm going to keep using twitter because I do enjoy it. One of the steps I'm going to take is to cut back on brightkite tweets. It's a little much on the revealing side. I know there are privacy settings, but just doesn't seem much use to use it in conjunction with twitter if the privacy settings are on. He goes in to much greater detail on this topic so be sure to check out this episode of the Jesus Geek podcast. |
